Shakeaway Dance Troupe

March 15, 2018

Towards the end of 2017, Thriller Live Director & Choreographer, Gary Lloyd, was invited to judge the annual Shakeaway Dance Troupe competition.

The competition was open to schools nationwide, with the winning school receiving a donation from Shakeaway, and with Gary's involvement, an invitation to the Lyric to both watch Thriller Live and take part in an on-stage workshop with members of the cast.

Though the competition was tough, Gary selected The Victory Academy as the winning entry and we're thrilled they could join us on 14/03/18 for the on-stage workshop led by Aisling Duffy and Florivaldo Mossi - Thriller Live’s Resident Director and Dance Captain respectively - before enjoying the show in the evening.

On the winning entry, Gary Lloyd said: “Though it was a pleasure to judge each of the four finalists, I have selected The Victory Academy as winner of the Shakeaway Dance Troupe competition. Their production and execution impressed me – they’ve great potential!”

On the experience, Sasha Sherwood from The Victory Academy said: "It was a life changing experience for some of our students, giving them a taste of what is yet to come. They fully enjoyed the whole day and threw themselves into the challenges thrown their way. They were in awe of Flori and Aisling, who were great with them, so inspiring and true role models. The show was absolutely flawless, the atmosphere was fantastic and we all had a brilliant time. We couldn't thank everyone enough for an unforgettable experience, meeting the whole cast after the show was a true highlight. Our students will hold this memory with them and we couldn't ask for much more. Thank you to all that were involved in making this day happen."

Video and photographs documenting the day will be released soon. In the meantime, we close with the entry that brought The Victory Academy to our stage in the first place!
