News Can you feel it? Read about the Thriller Live buzz
October 17, 2016
As part of our continued efforts to engage with Thriller fans and the community, each year we invite an educational institute to exhibit their Halloween themed artwork at the Lyric theatre, home to Thriller Live.
This Halloween, students from the Limes College have transformed the theatre’s bars into a celebration of Vodou. Persecuted in Haiti, Vodouists saw Vodou banned, faced anti-superstition campaigns and were forced to convert to Christianity. Vodou has been distorted in the mass media and portrayed as devil worship. Students have been using inspiration from Haitian Artists and the Loas (spirits) to create work that does not perpetuate stereotypes or reinforce prejudice.
The Limes College is an Outstanding Pupil Referral Unit in Sutton, Surrey, working with young people to achieve their full potential. At the heart of the College is respect; this involves students belonging and forming positive relationships with each other, parents, staff and the wider community. Through these relationships we address students’ barriers to learning. This enables learning, progression and achievement which, in turn, lead to our students moving on to positive destinations.
